UVa/Charlottesville on the other hand has plenty of stuff to do, to the point you'd probably want to visit again a few times after graduation. People who say VT is fun to be at probably haven't spent much time at other colleges. Those are still memorable even a few years after graduation even when all my theoretical engineering knowledge has definitely faded slightly.Īcademically, I'd say really ask yourself: would you rather just get your engineering degree? or would you rather be more challenged along the way However, the quality of the handful of liberal arts classes I took really sealed the deal for me.
Tech's classes are usually equivalent to UVa but sometimes I've found Tech skips a few chapters - particularly the ones that have limited practical applicability (series solutions in diffeq comes to mind) I do think that UVa's engineering degrees are a bit harder to get than Tech's (not by much) particularly due to the Ethics and capstone requirements. Both schools are excellent for engineers, and both have lots of opportunities to learn more outside of the classroom via research opportunities and more.
